VCE Indonesian
Unit 1 & 2
VCE Indonesian is an elective at Year 11 and 12. However it is only open to students who have taken it in Year 10, or who have substantial background knowledge and ability. In year 11 students use the textbooks Keren 3 & 4 and the companion website .
For Unit 1 their studies include:
- The geography and climate in Indonesia where they look at imaginative writing, covering places they have seen and visited to meet Outcome 1- a personal letter.
- The study of pop and traditional music in Indonesia to complete Outcome 2- listening and responding to spoken texts.
- The production of an online magazine, including reviews, articles, horoscopes and advertisements to meet unit 1 outcome 3.
- They also sit an oral and a written exam in unit 1
For Unit 2 their studies include:
- The topic of Visiting Indonesia with the students completing a pod cast treasure hunt to meet the listening component of Outcome 2.
- An introduction to Environmental Issues and then Festivals and Ceremonies where they complete the read and reorganise information component of Outcome 2.
- Researching one ceremony of their choice and writing an article on it for Outcome 3.
- Sitting another oral exam (interview) for outcome 1 which follows the format of the year 12 exam with the selection of a unit from the year as their detailed study to discuss.
Unit 3 & 4
At Year 12 the Indonesian faculty produce a small resource booklet for students to use, and also access the Bersama-sama Senior text.
For Unit 3 their studies include:
- A creative writing unit on Transmigration, and complete unit 3 SAC 1.
- A unit on Work, looking at careers and workers’ rights. Students apply for a job for which they meet all but one criteria. The ensuing interview is assessed as Unit 3 SAC 3.
- A listening and responding task on the Environment, occurs towards the end of term 2 and is assessed for SAC 2.
For Unit 4 their studies include:
- A look at Western Influence, on which we complete SAC 1, the read and reorganize information task, early in term 3.
- A Detailed Study on the Dutch Occupation, including articles from Selections from Indonesian and Malaysian History, and a webquest. Outcomes 2A and B are an interview and a report on the chosen topic.
- A focus on preparation for the oral and written exams. Exam technique is taught explicitly for the oral, listening, reading and writing components of the examinations.
