Process & Resources

Task 1- Decide on report format
Decide on the format of your individual and group reports now.

Task 2 - Divide the group
Allocate areas of responsibility to the members of the group. Each member of the team must take on a topic in which they are to become experts. This means looking at that specific area of the Balinese culture in detail and examining a range of elements within it.
The roles are:

  • The Religious Expert
  • The Community Life Expert
  • The Rites and Festivals Expert
  • The Arts Expert

In each section the expert is guided in their  task with questions to address and information to discover. They  must collate the information in such a way that someone who is not an expert will soon learn plenty about the topic.  Remember to use the format that your group has decided on.

Each team must have one member allocated to each role. If your team does not have enough people, you must decide which of the areas are most important to your group to work on.  Once you have decided, each team member should click on their link to start their exploration of Bali.

It's time to allocate the jobs and get to work...

The Religious Expert

The Community Life Expert
You will need to have an interest in discovering the origins of the Balinese religion and interesting facts about things such as temples, gods and offerings.

Your job will be to look at the community in Bali, how villages are organised, how family compounds are organised and the importance of family.

The Arts Expert

The Rites & Festivals Expert
Your job will be to explore the rich arts, music and dance that are a part of everyday Balinese life.

You will need to be curious about the interesting rituals and festivals that are celebrated in Bali, and the important stages of life that are celebrated from birth to death.

Task 3 - Group Findings

Sharing your knowledge
It is now time to bring back together what you have found. Each team member is to present the information that they uncovered under their area of expertise to the rest of the group.

Bringing it all together - Building the Mind Map
As a group you will use a mind map to link together the information you uncovered in your research. How do each of your topics link together? Where was there crossover of ideas?

Preparing the report
Your groups report for submission to the School Council must be in the following format:

  • A Cover Page
  • An introduction - This should outline the members of your team, their roles and the purpose of the task
  • Details of your recommendations - This will cover the key aspects as outlined on the Task page.
  • An appendix - This will include your background task plus each experts report on the individual areas of the cultural research. This is included to support your recommendations.

Assessment

Your assessment for this task will take the form of the following rubric. Print out and read over the rubric before commencing the task so that you understand what you will be assessed on.
